COUNSELORS

All counselors must be communicant members of an evangelical church.

Age Restrictions:

  1. No counselor or assistant counselor shall be less than two years and two grades older than the oldest delegate for whom the conference is designated.  For example, a conference for grades 7 and 8 would require all counselors and assistant counselors to be at least in grade 10 and at least 15 years old.
  2. The Park requires that “a minimum one counselor, who is at least 18 years of age, must be provided for every eight campers.”  While our other staffing will usually make this an unnecessary concern, conference directors do well to keep this in mind.
  3. The conference director shall ensure that the median age of the male counselors together with the male assistant counselors and of the female counselors together with the female assistant counselors is at least 18 years.  He should also be certain that those who are mature and who have experience as counselors at French Creek Bible Conferences are part of the counselor staff.+

Counselor Guidelines:

  1. Maintain discipline and atmosphere. Report infractions to conference director or dean.
  2. Know where your delegates are at all times.
  3. Take head count before each class, meal and activity. Be sure delegates attend activities and are on time. Exceptions are approved only by the nurse or conference director.
  4. Enjoy your delegates. Participate in all activities. Sit with them.
  5. Conduct cabin devotions each night.
  6. Be sure delegates are quiet and asleep at night.
  7. Remain in cabins at night. Counselor and cabin parties are prohibited.
  8. Be sure cabins, washhouses, and grounds are kept clean.
  9. Report questions or problems to conference director.
  10. Stay out of the kitchen. (Counselors have many responsibilities but few privileges.)
  11. Notify conference director if you need rest or break.
  12. Speak to each assigned delegate in a personal, heart-to-heart way about his salvation.
  13. Provide conference director with a report on each delegate before leaving.
  14. Write at least one letter to each delegate after the conference.
  15. When assigned to supervise an assistant counselor, you are responsible for the delegates of the assistant counselor as well as your own.
  16. When assigned to supervise an assistant counselor, you must provide a written report on the assistant counselor to the conference director before leaving.
  17. Counselors are expected to be a delegate at an appropriate youth conference when eligible.

Assistant Counselor:

An assistant counselor must have the written approval of at least one parent and of his/her pastor (of an evangelical church) or the session in the absence of a pastor.

  1. The purpose of the assistant counselor is two-fold: first, to provide assistance to counselors, and second, to provide on-the-job training for future counselors.
  2. Each assistant counselor is under the supervision of a counselor.
  3. An assistant counselor is to perform the same functions as a counselor, with the following exceptions:
    ·     infractions should be first reported to the supervising counselor, and then jointly reported to the conference director or dean.
    ·     cabin devotions will be held jointly with the supervising counselor's cabin(s).
